Morgan State University Choir will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Purdue

On Jan. 17, the renowned Morgan State University Choir of Baltimore will be the featured performers at Purdue’s annual commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The performance, which is free and open to the public, is hosted by the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging and will take place at 7 p.m. ET in Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse. Early online registration is recommended.
The choir has received worldwide acclaim for its performances with prestigious symphony orchestras and at historical events and venues, including the White House, Carnegie Hall, the Capitol rotunda service honoring Rosa Parks, and the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C. While the choir’s repertoire comprises classical, gospel and contemporary popular music, the choir also works to preserve the heritage of the spiritual.
The Morgan State University Choir has performed for audiences throughout the United States and all over the world – including North America and the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe.
The Morgan State choir will be joined by the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and Black Voices of Inspiration. The Purdue Varsity Glee Club entertains on behalf of Purdue University for campus, community, state, national and international events, averaging between 50-60 appearances each year. Black Voices of Inspiration, a performing arts ensemble of the Purdue Black Cultural Center, is dedicated to the performance of spirituals, gospel music and contemporary songs of inspiration by African American composers.
